Australia Day Long Weekend

We're having a very lazy Australia Day here, you've got to love national public holidays.

On Saturday night I ended going to see the Queensland Roar game, thanks to free tickets acquired through a friend of a friend's sister's boyfriend's room-mate... or something.

We were expecting a tame and dull game without many goals (their last game was a dour 0-0 draw), but the game ended up being really good with the Roar running out 4-2 winners. You can't complain seeing six goals in a football match.

On Sunday we played our indoor game in the sauna-like whether it was. … Read more →

New Keyboard & Phone Service

Logitech Illuminated KeyboardThere's been a few new things appearing around here lately. First off, i got a new keyboard for Trogdor (our desktop machine). The old one was really getting on my nerves: not being able to type fast because of a combination of my poor finger-movement skills and the fact that the keys weren't reliable if you didn't hit it 100% in the right place with the right amount of force in the right direction.

In keeping in the same style as the old one (which I actually like), I picked up the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, which keeps the laptop-styled … Read more →

DRM Walls Crumbling Down & Sickness

DRM, you won't be missedOut of all the technology expos in the past few weeks (Macworld and CES), for me the biggest highlight news-worthy-wise was the announcement from Apple that songs purchased through iTunes will be completely DRM (Digital Rights Management) free.

iTunes has always been the single biggest implementation of DRM on the planet, and it is fantastic news. This really is big news, as iTunes has always been the bastion of of a reasonably good effort at DRM. Hopefully, and i think it will be, the beginning of the end of DRM for digital content.

I have always been … Read more →

Half a Decade of Blogging & Rethinking the Whole Thing

Today marks five years since i started this blog, all the way back in January 2004. Those first few entries are very cringe-worthy in hindsight, but I soon got into the swing of things.

A lot has happened in the past five years: finishing Uni, getting married, various work-related stuff, games, holidays, and of course a lot of football.

However, as I complete half a decade of blogging and enter the sixth year of this blog, I must admit that I am rethinking the whole thing and actually quite seriously considering giving it up. There … Read more →

2008: Year In Review

Like last year, i'm finding it enormously hard to believe that I am already doing this entry again. In a way, it feels like the year has gone by in a flash, but in others, when one looks back at all that has happened over the past 12 months, then it does feel like a bit of time has actually passed.

Anywho, here we go:

January

- Pelvic Thrusts: UT3 Action: All the good gaming following on from the end of last year was awesome. Playing UT3 online at the start of the year was an extremely enjoyable highlight.… Read more →

The Best and Worst of 2008

Last year I really enjoyed doing my 'Best and Worst of 2007', so I thought why not do the same for this year!

So here it is: out of the stuff I saw/played this year, here is my critical wrap.

Movies

Best Movie: Wall-E.

This year was a pretty tough choice for me. There were a lot of good movies, a few great ones, and very few awesome ones. But for the the stand-out had to be Wall-E. That might surprise some in a year that included a theatrical Star Wars release, but I really loved Wall-E… Read more →

Christmas 2008

A big 'Merry Christmas!' to all! Christ is born, let's all glorify him!

This year's Christmas, probably more than any other, has really snuck up on me. Once again, today didn't really 'feel' like Christmas all too much.

It's possibly related to none of us actually having anything to open from under the tree this morning: the PS3 we got each-other has already been up and running for over a week now.

We did the usual Church-Brunch-Lunch-Dinner tour-de-Brisbane, but this year we made quick pit-stops at home between each leg. I've got to say that despite the extra driving that … Read more →

Blu-rays and Playstation 3s

Playsation 3 Blu-ray playerI'm not quite sure how to start this entry, because two years ago I would never have seen myself in this position. But I guess i'll come right out and admit it: this week I bought a Playstation 3.

Now I realise this is going to seem unusual to those who know me and also for the regular readers of this blog as I have generally been critical of the hardcore consoles and the Playstation in general, but like much of my other expenditure, this was mainly motivated by one thing: Star Wars. 😛

This week the first Star … Read more →

Christmas Approaches & James Bourned

Nothing much worth of mention has happened recently. Christmas feels like it's storming towards me like a runaway train, and i'm the cow stuck in the headlights... or train-lights... :S.

Anywho, just when I thought that there was plenty of time to go until Christmas, we're already a whole week into December. We got started on the Christmas preparations today by putting up our Christmas tree. I really must get started on everything.

On Friday night we went and saw the Quantum of Solace. Overall i thought it was really average; actually, honestly i thought it was really less … Read more →

I Just Don’t Understand Arsenal & Opera Mini 4.2

Celebrations as Arsenal beat ChelseaAlthough I didn't stay up to watch the game on Sunday night, Arsenal beating Chelsea at their home ground absolutely delights, overjoys, and thoroughly confuses me all at the same time.

Like the Manchester United victory three weeks ago, I was expecting an Arsenal bloodbath in this game (Arsenal have lost twice since the Man Utd game, to mediocre-ish opposition). The fact that they actually managed to not lose, let alone win the game against the billions-of-dollars of Chelsea is amazing.

Anywho, we spent the majority of the weekend down the Gold Coast attending a wedding that was down there. … Read more →
