New Blog Feature: Follow-Up Comment Notifications

In the last entry I signalled my intention to add the functionality to this blog to allow commenters to be notified via email of follow-up comments on a particular entry.

Yesterday and this morning i've spent about five hours implementing this functionality on this blog. I know it's kind of ironic me spending a fair amount of time implementing this considering the comment statistics mentioned recently in this entry, but I half-enjoy doing this type of stuff and it keeps my PHP skills up, so i think it's time mostly-well spent.

I'd like to find some real world guinea-pigs, … Read more →

Keeping Up With the Smiths and Joneses Geek-Style

Twitter BirdSo I guess that makes them the Gateses and the Jobses?

Anywho, being a geek i've got to keep up with the times, and darn it is tough with all the acronyms, abbreviations and general lolzors etc. Last year it was Facebook, and it seems recently it is now Twitter.

So yes i've joined the bandwagon. My twitter account is at http://twitter.com/lucascosti; follow me at your peril. I've also done a slight revamp of the blog: I have added a 'Tweets' section to the right which displays my last three tweets.

Recently i've also gotten a little itchy to … Read more →

Internet Censorship Blacklists & IE8 Released

The worst part of censorship is... *censored*One of the big IT news of the past few days was the apparent revelation of the Government ACMA blacklist by WikiLeaks. The ACMA and Senator Stephen Conroy promptly came out yesterday afternoon and denied that the leaked list was in fact the ACMA blacklist.

Now the funny thing is, is that since the blacklist is strictly confidential, the only way they can categorically prove that the leaked list isn't in fact the blacklist is to publicly publish the real blacklist itself! Otherwise we're going to have to take them on their word.

The Senator and the ACMA have reminded … Read more →

Watchmen & Hosting Woes

Watchmen posterFriday night we went and saw Watchmen. I only had brief knowledge of the comic series/graphic novel that the movie was based off, but i really enjoyed the movie.

The direction, visuals, and soundtrack all blended magnificently together to sell the whole 'alternate reality' of a twisted cold-war 1980s setting. The opening credit sequence of the movie is absolutely fantastic; it set the history and mood behind the plot really well.

Although the movie is a little long at 163 minutes, it definitely wasn't long for the sake of it (i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean movies). It felt very … Read more →

Wedding: Power Rangers Style

On the weekend we went to the wedding of Michael and Shelley. It was a really great wedding, it was lots of fun and of course i'm very happy for them.

However, probably the most weirdest thing out of all the weddings i've been to happened after the ceremony on Saturday.

As they were in the Church courtyard taking photos with family and such, three guys dressed up in Power Rangers costumes showed up for an apparent photo-op, and below was the hilarious results.

Wedding and Power Rangers, WTF?

Hilarious! I added the 'WTF?' myself, mainly in the hope that it might become one of … Read more →

Closing the X-Files & Piracy is Not Theft

A while back I bought the complete set of the X-Files (excluding the most recent movie). Seven months later, and after getting my wife hooked on it, we have finally finished watching the complete X-Files series including the recent movie which we acquired on Blu-ray.

It was great watching the show from start to finish. At the end of the show you could see why it was cancelled, and I think that it was probably appropriate that it was. After watching last year's movie recently on Blu-ray, I have mixed feelings of it. Although it was good, i felt as … Read more →

Gaming the Worries Away

House of the Dead: Overkill Bang Bang BoxAfter the previous entry, I have cheered up a bit. Much of that has to do with me getting two games which has proved a very welcome distraction from unnecessary thinking and worrying.

Firstly, one game that I have been very looking forward to over the past week was released: House of the Dead: Overkill. Many people have been waiting a long time for some adult-targeted games to come out on the Wii in the midst of all the crap games that have been released for the console.

As an aside: my status update on Facebook that read … Read more →

Crap Week

The past seven days have been generally a very testing one for myself personally. Again to be mysterious (and retaining at least some privacy), I can't mention much of the details here, but overall it's mainly down to some big disappointments.

Although at times it has felt a little overwhelming, after a bit of time I have managed to find a bit of perspective, and that has been made a lot easier to do by seeing all the terrible things many other people are having to cope with around the country in recent times. My disappointments and issues aren't worthy … Read more →

Birthday Week

So another week goes by, and largely it was a frustrating and stressful one. This week turned out to be the last week for the IT Manager at work as he is moving up north. The transition to a new one was much smoother than the previous times, but it's still going to take some getting used too.

Thursday was my birthday, and other than working, there wasn't much else to it. I did get FIFA 09 on the PS3, which was a pretty awesome present. I haven't had any time to play it yet, but hopefully I will sometime … Read more →

Finishing Games & Football Goodness

With a bit of my spare time lately i've decided that i'm going to back on a few of the games that I never actually finished for on reason or another and actually finish them.

I've always been the type of gamer that finishes games; i don't like not completing them unless it is an almost impossible task (mainly due to the difficulty). I don't see the point of spending money on something and not seeing it through to the end (a related aside is that i've never walked out on a movie).

So i finally finished off a few … Read more →
