Today marks five years since i started this blog, all the way back in January 2004. Those first few entries are very cringe-worthy in hindsight, but I soon got into the swing of things.
A lot has happened in the past five years: finishing Uni, getting married, various work-related stuff, games, holidays, and of course a lot of football.
However, as I complete half a decade of blogging and enter the sixth year of this blog, I must admit that I am rethinking the whole thing and actually quite seriously considering giving it up. There are various reasons for this. One big one is not really having that much content or indeed time to blog any more. As we settle into the nine-to-five routine, fewer and fewer things become really note-worthy, and more and more time is being taken up by other things.
As an extension of that, because this is a non-anonymous blog, some of the really interesting things that do happen I am unable to blog because its personal nature to those around me or to work.
I guess another reason is also the relatively fewer comments that have been posted in the last 12 months. Just as a bit of statistics (it was actually quite fun finding these out):
- For the year 2008, there were only 29 comments not posted by me.
- In 2007, there were 83.
- In April-December 2006 (April was when I altered the blog for comments to be properly time-stamped in the database) there were a phenomenal 209 comments not posted by me.
- And from January 2004 to March 2006, there were another 507 comments not posted by me (a whopping average of a 225.33 comments per year).
So from around 200+ per year to only 29 is a big jump. I know my blog isn't as interesting as it was back in the glory days of 2005 and 2006, but I wouldn't think that it is 85.5% less interesting! 😉
Anywho, it's not all doom and gloom, we'll just have to see how it goes.
Aww, i'll start commenting on your blog!
hehe, thanks... i think?
It got a bit better in 2009, from my DB counting skills there were ~70 comments not posted by me (although I think a lot of them were Mum now that she's using the computer... :S).
