Spyware Rants & Weekend Wins

Back at work at for another disgraceful Monday, and what the congested traffic didn't spoil, calls from family members who had once again stuffed up their computers, certainly did. Seriously, i don't get people and spyware/adware.

No matter how many times they screw up computers, and no matter how many times you explain it and demonstrate to them, they still manage to stuff the poor computers full of so much crap that it automatically shuts down before you can even type a URL into a browser.

But seriously, this is a problem. Not only for consumers, but for operating systems … Read more →

Lunar Eclipse

Lunar EclipseOn the eastern side of Australia we've just had the best seats in the house for a total lunar eclipse. Although a bit of cloud threatened to ruin it early on, it cleared up and gave us a mostly unobstructed view.

Our unit's balcony faces dead east, so it gave us the perfect position to not only watch the eclipse, but also take a few pictures too. We took out our digital SLR camera, put on the biggest lens we had, and set it on a tripod. The results are a new album in the Gallery, as well … Read more →

Trivia & Bribie Paniyiri

Last night me and Des participated in a trivia night for the Solomos Society with a lot of my family. I've been to a fair few trivia nights before, but the questions at last night's one were really difficult. I could only really confidently answer about a quarter of the questions.

The big event this weekend was the first Bribie Island Paniyiri. We were all very nervous about this all week, because in south-east Queensland it has been raining all week. Don't get me wrong the rain has been absolutely fantastic - apparently the last week has seen the first … Read more →

Bioshocked

BioshockI haven't bought any new games recently, and it was my intention not to buy any more games until much later in the year when Half Life 2: Episode 2 and Crysis came out. However, another highly anticipated game, Bioshock, has just been released.

I had dismissed it a while ago because it wasn't really my type of game, but it had caught my eye in the last week because of the ridiculously high reviews it has been getting from nearly every reviewer. And by 'high' I mean that I have yet to see a review from a reputable … Read more →

I Suck At SingStar

I can't believe i forgot to blog this yesterday, but it deserves its own entry anyway.

SingStarYesterday afternoon there was a sizable gathering at my parents' place with a lot of the extended family there. My brother and his wife also brought their Playstation along with all their 'SingStar' games.

It was fun seeing (and hearing) people give it a go, and I also had a few turns. It's common knowledge that my singing voice has been known to shatter the proverbial windows and mirrors over the years because of it's awfulness, but after an adequate and very … Read more →

More New Boots & Storage Purchases

Well that week went quick. Other than the usual work, I made some unexpected purchases in the past few days.

As alluded to in the last entry, I ended up going and buying another pair of new indoor boots after the last new pair proved unsatisfactory. The new(er) pair i bought was a silver pair of Lottos, and although I don't like the silver colour, they fit my foot really well. The boots seem a bit fragile, so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't last me even a year, but here's hoping.

I played the first game in … Read more →

Back to Work

Back at work this week after the week off last week. After the really good (albeit really busy) week off it was depressing on Sunday night contemplating having to go back in the morning.

There is a silver lining though: tomorrow is the Ekka public holiday for most of Brisbane, something i wish i thought of when planning my leave because i probably would have taken Monday and Tuesday off as well to link into it!

The weekend wasn't too bad: I played our indoor game on Sunday night and our team has actually been promoted up two divisions (from … Read more →

Finally Some Gaming!

Command and Conquer 3 Ion CannonOne of my goals I wanted to accomplish during my week off from work was to get in some good gaming. Unfortunately, today was my first opportunity i've had to actually do it.

This afternoon and tonight I finished the GDI campaign of Command & Conquer 3. Overall, i was quite disappointed in this game, especially after playing Supreme Commander.

I love the cut-scenes and the visuals of C&C3, but unfortunately there seems to have been little advancement in improving the command interface; it still feels like they've done barely anything to improve it beyond the original C&C … Read more →

Holiday Starts in Soreness

Today saw the start of our week of holidays. I say 'today' because last night it was my turn to do the monthly server maintenance for work.

Yesterday also saw me play two games of indoor following our bye week last week. We played two games because we were asked to help fill in a few players for a friend's team earlier in the day, but as it turned out, none of their players were fit to play, so me, Wil, Eric, as well as two other fillers played the game for them.

It was quite interesting because the team … Read more →

The Bribie Site is Live!

Screen Capture of Bribie WebsiteFinally, about three months after i've completed the main design work on it, the Bribie Island website that I've designed, implemented, and hosted is finally live on the internet.

Have a look at http://GOBribieIsland.org.

To be honest, i'm quite happy with the design. I think it conveys the right ambience for what the site is for, as well as it being totally 100% valid XHTML and CSS.

Let me know what you think of it!

In testing the websites I develop, I always make sure at least the main look of it is functional across a number of web-browsers. … Read more →
