Free games & Flower

FlowerMichael recently sent me this great list of the 101 best free online games for 2009 (WARNING FOR STUDENTS: these will make for increased tendency to procrastinate!!): link here.

I quickly went through the 'WTF' section and one jumped out at me, which now has me slightly addicted: TypeRacer. This is one of those really simple ideas that is really effective (and I wish I'd thought of): it's basically like a typing test, except you are 'racing' live against other people over the internet. The stuff they get you to type is good too: it's usually taken from … Read more →

Movies: Wolverine & Star Trek

Wolverine posterIt's that time of year, we enter the 'blockbuster' movie season as North America enters it's summer-holiday period.

In the past week I've seen two of the early big movies: Wolverine and Star Trek.

After feeling really betrayed by X-Men 3 a few years ago, I was very apprehensive about X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie for me was pretty average: not all that bad, but definitely not too good either.

I know a lot of the females out there will disagree, but I feel like the movie was a little monotonic in focusing on Wolverine/Hugh Jackman for almost … Read more →

Windows 7 Release Candidate

Like I did with Windows Vista almost three years ago (btw, i can't believe how quickly the time has gone), in the past few days I have been trialling out the Release Candidate of the upcoming Windows 7.

For those not in the know, a 'Release Candidate' is basically just that: more advanced in the development lifecycle than a beta, and ideally it is a candidate for the final release, pending any bugs or features that have yet to be fixed or included.

Like last time I heard 'Enough talking, show us some screenshots!', so like last time below are … Read more →

Long Weekend, Cleaning, & Fanboys

FanboysThere was no work to go to today, as we in Queensland had another long weekend. Whilst I definitely don't complain that we have had another long weekend, it does kind of suck that they are all bunched up into almost one three-month period in the year (April-June), and other than that we have only one other public holiday before Christmas. Spread the love around a bit more i say.

It's been a weekend that's been pretty much non-stop for us. On Saturday we hosted a surprise birthday party for the sister-in-law as well as Church and a Lonestar dinner … Read more →

Scoreless Draws & Fab Arsenal

At indoor last night we played out a scoreless draw, which is a pretty rare event for an indoor game. I really can't remember the last time that it actually happened. It was a pretty contentious game, as the ref had both teams pretty equally displeased with some calls throughout the match. All-in-all, a draw was probably a fair result.

Last I also stayed up to watch the Arsenal game against Middlesbrough, which was made a lot more easier by the 10:30pm kick-off time. It was a good game for Arsenal: fabulous Fabregas scoring two goals for the win, and … Read more →

New Mobile: Nokia 6600 Slide & Bring it on Soul

Nokia 6600 SlideOver our Easter long weekend, i finally did what i've been saying i was going to do for a little while: i've left my (now previous) mobile phone company and gotten a new plan and a new phone.

The phone I ended up getting was the Nokia 6600 slide. For the most part, i was very happy with my previous phone (the Nokia 5300), so i've basically upgraded to a similar phone that is significantly smaller and has better features (3G, etc.).

After using the 6600-slide for this weekend, i absolutely love it. I really like the size and … Read more →

Easter 2009 & Awesome Surreal Game

A big 'Christ is Risen' to everyone!

Other than the main event, this Holy Week has been a pretty uneventful one. I'm really glad that I decided to take Friday off work, as it was great having the day to rest and prepare for the services this weekend.

I'm even more glad that i've taken tomorrow off work too, as right now i'm feeling absolutely screwed. We got home and into bed at around 4:30am last night after Church finished and the supper afterwards, woke up at around 11:30 and did the family thing all afternoon.

The timing of our … Read more →

Holy Week Begins & Shiny Clean Computer

Today is the first day of the Orthodox Holy Week, which means regular Church services throughout the week culminating in our Easter on Sunday. This year i've taken Good Friday and Bright Monday off from work to make the week a little more manageable. The timing of Aussie Easter this year means that the coming week will be a three day working week for me. 😀

I've also just finished wiping and re-installing everything on Trogdor. It's running great at the moment, without all the useless crap that had built up on it over the past two years. I've purposely … Read more →

Getting Ready For the Wipe

It's Aussie Easter this weekend (our Orthodox Easter is next week), so that means a wonderful four-day weekend.

So with this spare time i'm doing a lot of things that I have been putting off recently. The top of my list is that I am going to be reformatting Trogdor and reinstalling Windows Vista.

Over the past two years a lot of crap has accumulated on the computer, so it's definitely time to clean it up. I expect that it's going to take the majority of tomorrow to do (there's a lot of stuff that is going to be needed … Read more →

Hosting Change: Welcome to Cove

Cove carbon-neutral hostingIf you're seeing this entry, it means that the DNS changes have propagated and you're now seeing this website on my new host.

After all the talk recently and over the years, i've finally moved my hosting account. It wasn't an easy decision, as I had been with my previous host, Solid Internet, for over five years. But recent continuous server issues and general customer service quality dissatisfaction meant that i went to look elsewhere.

After shopping around I eventually settled on choosing Cove, a relatively new company started by some not-so-new people in the hosting business. The fact … Read more →
