Trivia and Semi Final

On Friday night Des and I went to a trivia night the southside parish youth was putting on. I really enjoy trivia nights, but it's been frustrating going to them lately: for the last 3 trivia nights i've been to, the team i was for all three finished in second place.

Well, Friday night was a tight one: our team finished third, and missed out on winning it by half a mark, as two other teams were tied above us. A few of the questions and answers were dodgy (half marks? wtf), but overall it was thoroughly enjoyable. Plus there … Read more →

Next Month is NaBloPoMo 2007….

...and i'm not totally sure if i'll be able to make it through this one. I successfully made it through the inaugural NaBloPoMo last year, but i feel so much more busy this year so i think it will be much more of a challenge.

For the unaware, NaBloPoMo is National Blog Posting Month, where all participants have to post a blog entry for every single day in November. Andrew feebly tried to join me last year but didn't last the distance 😉

There is no cool Yoda seal for it this year, but i'll put the one they're … Read more →

Sore Losers

It's been a funny sort of week: stuff happened but i'll be stuffed if i can remember much of it now!

Yesterday I spend most of the day implementing a PHP photo gallery for the Church's Bribie Island website that I had developed earlier this year. Now all it needs is some photos to put in it.

The highlight (or lowlight...) of the weekend was this morning's indoor game. Today was the last game before the finals, and it was us as the top team on the table playing the second-placed team. We had whooped them 15-0 earlier in the … Read more →

Demos & Power Supplies

UT DarkWalkerAnother post of geekery.

Continuing on from the last entry on upcoming games, in the past few days there were two demo releases for two of the biggest release to happen in the next few months.

Firstly was the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare demo, which i had an absolutely torrid time trying to download off the Bigpond servers. Tipping the scales at 1.4GB for a demo, the download always got up to about 600MB and then stopped. After about 10 tries it did eventually come down, and now i've got about 12GB of unmetered usage racked up against … Read more →

The Game Wave

As we approach the end of the year (is it really already???), another thing that is also approaching is an almost tidal wave wave of massive gaming titles. I'll call it 'The Game Wave'.

Starting really from this week and continuing well into next year is the continual release of some truly epic games that many have been looking forward to for years; and i'm only really taking into consideration games that i'll be purchasing for the PC and Wii; i almost feel sorry for the bank accounts for those who also own Playstation 3s and XBox 360s!

Anyway i'll … Read more →

Luckless

No, the title is not a misspelling of my name. I'm over dramatising things a bit, but luck hasn't really gone my way over the past few days.

Yesterday afternoon was our indoor game and we knew it was going to be a tight one as we were playing the second-placed team (behind us) and they beat us last time. With a ten minutes left i scored what I thought was the winner to put us ahead 3-2, but we conceded a sloppy goal near the end. Then almost right before the end of the game, i jumped up for … Read more →

Earning My Wage

Wow, that week was pretty nuts. After the previous quiet few weeks at work I was hoping that this week wouldn't be that bad now that the IT Manager had left. Boy was I wrong, it's undoubtedly the busiest week i've had since the last IT Manager left.

Although the disasters this week weren't exactly on the same scale as last time, it was still pretty stressful, but at least I wasn't on my own as thankfully I had some help with Nathan coming back on a temporary basis to help out. It's just frustrating that issues that never happen … Read more →

It Begins…

I've just finished the monthly maintenance for the systems at work that gets done, rather surprisingly, on a monthly basis and also contains some maintenance too.

As you can probably tell by now, i'm feeling a little crazy at the moment. Maybe its the tiredness, the heat that's arriving early this year, or possibly the fact that on this hot Sunday night I face work this week on my own without knowing when a replacement IT manager is going to be appointed.

It was a interesting weekend though: Saturday afternoon and night Des and I had the Christening and associated … Read more →

Shared Items & Russian Singers

I've decided to put something new on this blog. I use Google Reader as my RSS feed aggregrator, and one nifty little feature is being able to 'share' specific entries from your subscribed RSS feeds. I've now got an automatic list of my latest shared items on the right. They haven't yet added the ability to customise the colour of the snippet so it does look a little out of place...

Anywho, on Tuesday night there was a concert at Church of a travelling Russian singing group raising funds to rebuild the Valaam Monastery in Russia. These guys were absolutely … Read more →

Healthy!… Apparently & Half Life

When we took a week's break back in August, both me and Des went to the doctors for a general check-up, which also also included getting a general blood test done. I had forgotten to get the results back until this week, and somewhat surprisingly, I am almost completely healthy.

The last test that i've had was back in 2002, so i wasn't expecting great results after having put on a bit of weight since then and my diet not having improved much at all. I was at least expecting my cholesterol to be significantly higher, but the test revealed … Read more →
