Photos of uni

Today I actually remembered to bring the camera to uni. I thought that by today all the jacarandas would have already lost all their flowers, but upon arriving into uni i was pleasantly surprised that most still had them. Got some great photos of the jacarandas. Also took a tourists tour of the uni and took a lot of other photos too. I figured once I graduate i will probably miss the place. All the photos are in the Gallery.

As usual, went into uni twice today: once for my 10-12 INFS3200 lecture, and again at 4 for my … Read more →

THE END OF COMP3804!! well… almost

What a past few days. Very strange and very busy. Ok, where do i start. Lets start the story since my last blog entry on Wednesday: Wednesday I come into uni to the labs to help the programmers finish the program and to start going through the agenda for the very huge COMP3804 final demonstration on Friday.

I expected to be in there late. The programmers start integrating their various bits, and i soon realise that there probably still needs to be a lot done before the program will be in a fit state to even start one practice of … Read more →

Jacarandas Are Blooming

UQ is famous for its many Jacaranda trees around the St. Lucia campus. It is a common myth here at UQ that if you haven't started studying for your exams by the time the Jacarandas start blooming (usually around this time of year) that you are not going to be in good shape for your exams. If this is actually the truth, then I am totally screwed, for they started blooming about a week ago.

The Jacarandas in full bloom here truly a fantastic site. Every day that I have come to uni this week I would say to myself … Read more →

PD-Day T – 3 days and counting.

Yes, the day is coming. After beginning the journey way back in March, on Friday is the PD-Day (Project Demonstration-Day). After all the year's work, (and more than a fair share of bitching and complaining on this blog) it mostly all ends on Friday. My group is presenting our final product on 9:30am this Friday. One years worth of work we have to cram into one 25min demonstration, which is the only way our program is assessed as we do not actually submit the program itself to be marked.

This demonstration is worth 20% of the year-long course, the single … Read more →

Marks party & Election

Last night was Mark's 21st party. I had a great time, it's always good to catch up with the guys from school, it's really been a while since i've seen most of them. Photos are in the gallery (password required for these as usual). I've also uploaded some more of my assignments from this year if anyone is interested.

Yesterday was also the Federal election. Went and voted at around 10am. The Coalition was returned as Government, surprisingly increasing their majority as well. Early indications are that they might even control the Senate, which is pretty exceptional, as it's been … Read more →

Windows 3.1 & Summer is coming

I was in Myer at Loganholme the other day (Thursday, i think), just browsing through the book department. In the "Computer" (using the "" loosely) section, my eyes wandered to a book entitled: The Complete Book on Windows 3.1. I first thought that the book was some kind of joke. I then picked it up, and it was the real deal. My second thought was that they must be trying to get rid of it for like 20c or something: nope they were selling this book at a hefty price of $20.30.

I looked through this book, which must … Read more →

I haven’t got the power

Today was frustrating in many ways. Most of all i went into uni today from around 2-7 on a day in which I don't normally have uni. Apart from that, we also lost power here today for around an hour. What was frustrating is that we now have a gate that is electrically powered for our driveway, and of course when there is now power, the gate doesn't work.

However, we were provided keys for the gate that unlocks the moving mechanism so you would be able to slide it open manually if there was a loss of power or … Read more →

Fairly busy

I've been fairly busy lately.

On Friday I took my day off that i was planning. In the morning i got a much needed haircut (i didn't do it myself like Andrew though, hehe). I felt like watching a movie so I watched X-Men 2 on dvd. I also had two very pleasant surprises: first of all Rolando came over to show me his car (very nice btw), and we ended up watching Shoalin Soccer. It was also Rolando's 21st birthday on Friday. A public 'Happy Birthday!' to him. Just after Rolando left, Mark rang and came over for … Read more →

All day in the Labs

For the first time in my time at uni (almost four whole years), I spent almost the entire day, and also some of the night, in the computer labs at uni.

This might seem strange to some people considering i'm doing an IT degree, but i've never had the need to spend all day in front of the uni computers. I've always tried (and succeeded mostly) to do all my computer related work at home on my (mostly) reliable computer, compared to the sometimes faulty air-conditioning and nearly always faulty computers that are the labs. I dunno, it always seems … Read more →

RSS Feed and Firefox Live Bookmarks

One of the latest features of the Firefox browser is what's called Live Bookmarks. (a Bookmark is basically the same thing as a Favourite in Internet Explorer) However these 'live' bookmarks are different from normal bookmarks and use RSS(Really Simple Syndication) feeds to generate links to frequently updated information. I'm not doing a really good job of explaining this but...

For example this blog now has an RSS feed (well, it's always had it, but there was no link to it on the pages). Now In Firefox when you go to this blog, you will see a little RSS symbol … Read more →
