Top of the Class!

I can't really believe it. The INFS3200 (Advanced Info. Systems) mid-semester exam results were just published, and i scored the best in the class. I scored the highest out of the class of over 100 people with 74/80 (the exam was worth 40% of the course). The next highest people were on 65.5 and the average being 45.69. I don't really know why the average was that low...

Today i was woken up by a call for me to come into work. Not a very nice way to wake up, but i went and worked anyway from 8:30 to 1.… Read more →

Studying and the Internet: Good or Bad?

So begins my mid-semester 'break'. Lots planned (see previous post), and first in the firing line is finishing the HIST2606 essay. Got some good primary sources but need more.

Worked yesterday, went to church last night.

The weather is heating up a lot, which i am not liking. Last few nights slept with only the one sheet and the window open. Boo hoo, i hate the summer weather. 🙁

A thought has come upon me in the recent weeks: Is having (almost) unlimited access to high-speed internet beneficial, or actually detrimental to me studying for uni?

If you has asked … Read more →

COMP2502 mark, INFS3200 exam solutions, COMP3804 presentation

A few days ago I got my COMP2502 assignment 1 (the assignment with timing algorithms etc.) mark back. I originally only got 77/100, which included the bonus 5% for handing it in early. I was majorly disappointed in this result (I only got 20/40 for the analysis). I was confident that i had answered everything required of me for the analysis and strongly felt that a bare pass for that section was not really deserving of the assignment. I weighed up whether to appeal the mark, as the assignment was only worth 15% of the course, and if i was … Read more →

INFS3200 Exam and SW Trilogy DVD!

yesterday was the INFS3200 mid-semester exam, worth 40% of that course. I didn't really do as well as i had hoped to, but i'm pretty sure i at least passed the exam. I think most people were surprised by the amount of theory questions on the exam, and the general lack of the type of questions that we were used to answering in the tutorials. But anywho, what'ya going to do.

Now that the exam is over, i can now concentrate on my other courses and assignments. As next week is the mid-semester break, i've got a lot planned to … Read more →

Exam tomorrow

Tomorrow is my 40% INFS3200 exam. I'll be doing last minute preparations for that today.

Went to work last night, and was sent home early because it wasn't busy at all. On the way to work I almost saw a kid get run-over. The six-year (or so) old lost control of his bike on the small hill descending toward the road (this is the main road of Wynnum Rd), and came half-way into the first lane of the road. The car in that lane swerved right to miss the child, only to swipe the car in the next lane. Although … Read more →

3804 timing

There has been a bit of a mix up in the last few days in regard to the COMP3804 presentation and final demonstrations. The issue was the times that my group was allocated to present and demonstrate clashes with the COMP2502 lecture on those days. It's all been fixed, so that's good.

I was (again) researching my HIST2606 essay the other day, tring to find some more primary sources to put in my essay. After finding a good quote from Goebbels that i can put in there, i still needed a few more. I decided to try to find some … Read more →

Stable SP2

I have finally got XP with SP2 working as it should be, well, mostly. After much communication between me and the Microsoft help guy, which although although helpful, wasn't too useful, I have gotten rid of the two bugs mentioned in the earlier post (the Windows Explorer and System Restore bugs). After seeing that the Windows Explorer bug did not occur in Safe Mode, the MS help dude reccomended that i start in safe mode and then use the System Configuration Utility (Start Run type msconfig) to manually choose which processes to run on startup. He said to disable all … Read more →

Dodgeball

On Friday night me and Despina went and saw Dodgeball. I found it absolutely hilarious. I dunno, i guess it was just my sort of humour. The rest of the cinema seemed to enjoy it as well though. After a funny part, i couldn't hear any of the movie because the whole theatre was laughing that loud.

Anywho, I worked yesterday morning which wasn't that bad, typed out what I have done for my HIST2606 essay, and went to Church on Saturday night.

I have been in contact with the Microsoft support over the last week and a bit, and … Read more →

Exam Study Begins

My moral was a little lifted this week. There was an article in the Tuesday Australian (for those that don't know, the Australian on Tuesdays has a special IT section), which reported that the IT industry is starting to pick up again, and that there is light at the end of the tunnel for the students that have been studying IT during the slump in the industry over the past few years. (see the online version here) Basically, it said that graduates over the next year or two should be quickly snapped up. While i'm hoping this will be … Read more →

The Great Plastic Bag Shortage of 2004

Had an alright weekend. Spent most of it attempting to write out the rest of my HIST2606 essay. I've almost finished it: i've just got to finish of my conclusion and find some more primary sources to put into my argument. Not planning on toally finishing it soon though, as a plan to study for my INFS3200 exam that is in 2 weeks.

I've worked twice since my last blog entry. I worked last night and tonight. Tonight at work something happened that I never thought would happen at the supermarket that i work at: we ran out of plastic … Read more →
