The thoughts, opinions, happenings, and just plain ramblings of a seemingly boring person.

Holding my Breath

If this breaks in a few days, it wasn't me :woops:. My host is upgrading all their servers to the latest stable versions on PHP and MySQL (both from versions 4 to 5). As a result, some or all of my PHP scripts may cease to work because I am not 100% positive that they are compatible under the new version of PHP. My apologies in advance if the site goes down.

After all the excitement of the past week (as well as my blog frequency, of which I am quite proud of 8)), things seem to have calmed down … Read more →

Robbed: Australia Out of the World Cup & Futurama Revived!

It was the cruellest of circumstances, in the last few seconds of the game Italy were awarded a very dubious penalty after Australia had completely dominated the second half.

Firstly, i'm going to lay it all on the table: even before this game I have never liked Italian football. Not one bit. I hate their style of play, they always go for one goal and then just defend like crazy, choking life out of any game they play in; their league is a joke (just do a news search now on the 'Serie A' to see what I mean); and … Read more →

Round of Sixteen

Well tonight is (another) the big night: Australia vs Italy in the round of 16 in the Football World Cup. After the keeping debacle of last game, I thought the below image is highly relevant and true:

Church Sign: Jesus Saves Better than Kalac

But seriously, go Australia! We'll see if i'll be coherent enough to to do a round up tomorrow.

To life-blogging, we had a busy but enjoyable weekend. On Saturday was the baptism of my brother's fiancé, which was a really great day. I've never been to an adult baptism before, so it was quite an experience seeing the catechumen say the Confession of … Read more →

Torrenting and Linux Virtual Machines

This weekend I dipped my feet into two technologies that i've previously never touched or shied away from. The first is Bit Torrent. Many will probably be surprised that i've never used this considering my geekiness.

Torrenting is another form of peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, but is more aimed at quickly and efficiently sharing particularly large (i.e. 1GB+) files without needing to download it from a centralised server. It does a pretty good job, a main difference between torrenting and other P2P is that more than the others it is able to share parts of a file that you … Read more →

Australia Through!

I am a very tired boy, and as the timestamp on this entry will reflect, it is all my own doing. I got up at 5am local time this morning to watch the big make-or-break Australia vs Croatia match.

It turned out to be quite an intriguing and frustrating match, but Australia ran out the draw 2-2 twice coming from behind. They advance to the round of 16 at the expense of Japan and Croatia, and finish second in the group behind holders Brazil.

Kewell celebratesBefore anyone comments, yes I know that the second goal was scored by none other than … Read more →

Smokin’ New External Hard-Drive

Yay! A non-football entry! The title is quite true literally, but more on that later.

At home in the past few weeks, we have developed a need for a lot more storage (computer memory wise). Although i've always thought that two computers with 60GB and 80GB drives were always more than enough for my storage needs, I am now quite wrong.

What has changed to need a lot more space? The usual space-hog in the computer world: video. We have just started to attempt to capture video from our video camera (honeymoon videos etc), and at a good quality for … Read more →

Apologies for More football

Apologies to all who read this blog, but this is another entry on football.

Firstly was Sunday's big indoor game with our team (which was bottom on the table) playing playing the team right above us. Although our chances of making the final are totally gone, we had set ourselves the goal of avoiding the wooden spoon to achieve.

Winning the past two games on the trot had put us in a good position prior to this game. The game started well, with our team doing most of the attacking. I scored the first goal, running onto an excellent pass … Read more →

World Cup: Lots of Football

The title pretty much explains itself. I have been staying up almost every night here watching at least the first half of the first game of each day of the FIFA World Cup. Here in Australia the games each day start at 11pm, 2am, and 5am. I'm currently typing this entry while watching Argentina absolutely demolish Serbia & Montenegro.

Before I get too much ahead of myself I must mention this weeks Poker winner:

This weeks winner: Anthony
Anthony

It was a depleted line-up this week, with only four players contesting the title. In the end it was me and Anthony fighting it out, … Read more →

Football Victory!

Tim Cahill celebratesIf you guessed that the title refers to the Australian victory over Japan in the Football World Cup, you are correct, but I was also referring to our indoor football team winning a second game on the trot. But more on that later.

I stayed up last night to watch Australia play Japan, which kicked off at 11pm Eastern Australian time. For the majority of the game Australia played pretty ordinary. Although having the majority of possession, they really didn't create many chances but were unlucky to be quite unfairly behind following a Japanese goal which really should have been … Read more →

Samsung’s Reply & USB Drives

The World Cup has kicked off! After poker and the previous entry last night, I stayed up to watch the Germany vs Costa Rica match. After the guys left though, I closed my eyes for what seemed a few seconds during the very drawn out pre-match stuff, only to open them and see it was already half an hour into the game, and after 3 goals had already been scored.

After getting over me falling asleep, i kept my eyes open for the rest of the game (which was quite entertaining btw), and saw Germany win 4-2.

Other than the … Read more →
