Repentance and Eucatastrophe

As a practising Christian, the notion of repentance is an especially important one. Christ and the Church instructs us to repent for our sins. Many, including myself, a lot of the time mistake 'repentance' for a feeling of guilt or remorse for the sins that we have committed against God and also each other (which by extension is God again).

A sermon by Fr. Dimitri (i think it was him...) the other day reminded me that repentance is not merely an admission of guilt or remorse on our own part, which is really only the first (quite simple) step.

Into the Finals

Went to church as usual last night and afterwards went down to West End and ate Nando's and ice-cream. Very yummy.

Today's game of indoor soccer was the last one of the normal season before the finals. We were in third place before the game and already garunteed a finals place. However we did want to win to have the chance to finish second and have an easier semi-final game, as it all depended on if the second place team lost.

We ended up winning a tight game 4-3. I have to say, my overall game is very much improving, … Read more →

Back to Uni (for the last time)

This will probably be the last blog entry of my 'holidays' before i go back to uni. I say 'holidays' because these holidays have really been anything but. In the last few years between November and February I was very used to really sitting around on my behind wasting time, going out, doing flash intros, watching movies, and only the occasional shift at the supermarket (1 or 2 days a week) financing it all.

This holidays full-time work experience for the majority of it has really emphasised the value of the uni holidays. Pity, because I will never have them … Read more →

Resigned & Indoor

Had an interesting weekend. First and foremost, on Saturday I resigned from my supermarket job! Yay!! I am so glad to be outta there. I resigned because I have been given the opportunity to work part-time at my work-experience place over the coming uni semester which starts next week. It's so good to drive past that place now and not be reminded that I have to go work there.

On Sunday night was our regular indoor soccer game. It was a really tough and satisfying game. We were 1-0 down at half-time, then equalised 1-1 straight after the break, and … Read more →

Busy & Youth

Doesn't really feel like it was that long ago that I blogged but looking at this site today I realised it was. I sorta try to blog at least once every three days, but as has been usual been extremely busy.

This week I got a Gmail account. Right now GMail (Google Mail) is still only in beta, and you need an existing member who can to 'invite' you to have an account. Thanks to Natalie for that. Although it isn't as 'pretty' as Hotmail, the features that it already does have (keep in mind it is a beta version) … Read more →

Engaged!

The observant readers of this blog will now have noticed that my Status displayed on the right in the 'My Profile' section, has now changed to 'Engaged'.

Yesterday I formally proposed to my girlfriend of more than three years and the love of my life, Despina. I say 'formally proposed' because we already knew that we are going to get married (having been planning the engagement party for over a month now), and it was only the formality of actually giving her the ring (it had just finished being made this week).

The engagement is next month, with the wedding … Read more →

Memory

One of the things that I wanted for my birthday was an upgrade to my laptop's memory. My laptop already has a considerable 512MB of RAM, but to give it an extra kick in the games and other resource intensive programs that I've been using I wanted to upgrade the memory. I would rather have got a better graphics card, but with most laptops (including mine) that is almost (if not) impossible without completely ripping apart the motherboard and chipset.

So the next obvious conclusion was to increase the memory, which is as easy as opening an access panel on … Read more →

Dean’s Commendation

Yesterday afternoon I received the Dean's Commendation letter for my academic performance for 2nd semester of last year. I knew it was coming because I knew my GPA of last semester merited it. If a student achieves a GPA of 6.00 or higher for a particular semester of full-time study (at least 4 courses) they are awarded a Dean's Commendation.

At UQ the IT department is included in the EPSA faculty (Engineering, Physical Sciences, and Architecture). Dad found it highly amusing and ironic that although i did not follow in his footsteps in doing architecture, that I am getting … Read more →

Cold

Not at work today, because very ironically in the sweltering heat of the past week, I have caught a cold. I had a sore throat on the weekend, but the cold has just really hit me in the past few days.

Haven't blogged in a while, so I might as well catch up:

A recent event was none other than my birthday on Saturday. We had some family over for on Friday for both my brother and my birthdays (his was on Friday), and Saturday day me and Despina just had a quiet day.

That night we went to Church, … Read more →

Macs

Not been up to too much lately. Just work and sleep.

One thing that I have found beneficial at the place that I work, is that they have a few Apple computers that I use fairly often (well, only 2, and one Apple multimedia server). I have never really had any experience using Macs before, so I have enjoyed learning something new.

I've got to say that they aren't as bad as I thought they were. In fact, they're actually quite good and have really grown on me. Don't get me wrong, there is no way that I'm going to … Read more →
