TRYING to write an essay

For the past few days i've been trying to begin fully writing my HIST2606 essay, but i'm not doing really well. After doing some initial research over the weekend, i didn't have that much time on Saturday or Sunday to really get started on it. On Saturday i had work in the morning, and i spent the afternoon updating the COMP3804 DB scripts following the client interview on Friday. Sunday i went to Church in the morning, attended the subsequent lunch at Southside, and got home at around 3 and did the prliminary research and planning. I mostly read through … Read more →

Lost in 2502

This morning was the COMP3804 client interview. We basically had to give in a list of questions we have about the program we are implementing at least 3 days before, and the client answers them for us. I seem to have made correct assumptions for the DB side of things, so not much needs to be changed for that.

In one of my other IT subjects, COMP2502 (algorithms and data structures), I am completely lost. I hardly seem to be understanding anything from this course. So far it is mostly complicated mathematics that i am not following at all. tutorials … Read more →

Library entry

I'm sitting in the Library at uni typing this out.

After getting up at 6 this morning, leaving at 7:15 and sitting in traffic until getting to uni at 8:10, I attended another one of Kevin Gates (COMP2502 course coordinator) entralling Algorthims and Data Structures lecture (there's sarcasm for you!!).

I hate Thursdays, i'm in here till 3, and only really have a one hour break. At this time starting week 5 i will have another tute.

My sister babysitted my cousins last night, and they brought over they're movie collection (mostly avi's on burnt cd's). I got a copy … Read more →

Deciding HIST2606 Essay Topic

I'm trying to decide on what to do for my HIST2606 (history of warfare) essay. I've narrowed it down to two topics:

- In what sense was the First World War the first "modern" war?
or
- In what ways can the Second World War be considered a "total war"?

Both are appealing, and would be relatively easy to answer... I'm just not sure!

Today is the Ekka public holiday, which kinda sucks for me because I don't have uni on Wednesdays, so i don't really get an extra day off. I hope everybody that works full time is enjoying … Read more →

COMP3804 DB Scripts finished & Arsenal beat Man Utd

I've just finished the database scripts that a i had to do for the COMP3804 project. I spent nearly the whole weekend doing them (other then Church Saturday night and work last night). It took a bit longer than I expected, but i wanted to get them out of the way quickly so the programmers fully start implementing the program itself. However, it wasn't so much a chore as it sounds. If i had to choose what kind of uni work i had to do, it would be this stuff, so i sort of half enjoyed it.

Next in the … Read more →

Roswell!

Lat night me and Despina went shopping in the city once again. So after picking her up from work we went there. The main reason why i wanted to go to the city is that a few days ago, Roswell Season 1 came out on DVD. I absolutely loved this TV series that only lasted a short 3 seasons. When it came out come out in 1999, i was hooked.

After that we went home and watched the first episode (which I haven't seen for five years).

Today i start doing the database scripts for the COMP3804 project. Should take … Read more →

Back into it

Uni has kicked back into full gear, as I have been fairly busy over the last few days (well, busy enough not to be bothered to make a blog entry anyway). Yesterday i spent most of the day updating the conceptual design for COMP3804.

In the last few days I also ordered an iTrip, which is a little FM transmitter for the iPod. There is no cassete deck in the car that i drive, so normal car-adapter kits would not have worked. The iTrip quite handy in that it allows you to set a FM frequency to transmit on, … Read more →

Weekend

It seems that the proposed grade capping ammendment was approved by all students on Friday, so they will be implementing it into the course. I don't know whether this is a good or a bad thing for me, because when my grade was capped at a 5 there wasn't as much pressure to do well in this subject anymore. Now that I have the opportunity to get a six by doing really well, it seems to all be back.

This semester it is weird. I have Mondays off which is sort of strange to me. Whenever i have had a … Read more →

Got an iPod and COMP3804 grade capping change proposal

This morning was the first day of COMP3804, and it was revealed the planned changes to grade-capping scheme, if all students agree to it. The new plan is as follows: students that didn't get a 7 can improve their capped grade by 1 grade by: doing really well in the overall mark by achieving that level of grade + 5%. For example, because my grade is capped at a 5 because of my exam mark, i can achieve a maximum of a 6 by getting 80% (the 75% cut-off + 5%) or higher on the overall grade AND not get … Read more →

SW Episode III title

The full title for Star Wars Episode III was announced a few days ago. It is:
Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

This title is not so much a surprise for those die-hard Star Wars fans such as myself. Let me enlighten the rest of us as to why this was the expected (and probably fan favourate) title.

As we all probably know, the original Star Wars trilogy (eps. IV-VI) were: Episode IV: A New Hope (1977); Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980); and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983).

In regard to the last … Read more →
