Scoreless Draws & Fab Arsenal

At indoor last night we played out a scoreless draw, which is a pretty rare event for an indoor game. I really can't remember the last time that it actually happened. It was a pretty contentious game, as the ref had both teams pretty equally displeased with some calls throughout the match. All-in-all, a draw was probably a fair result.

Last I also stayed up to watch the Arsenal game against Middlesbrough, which was made a lot more easier by the 10:30pm kick-off time. It was a good game for Arsenal: fabulous Fabregas scoring two goals for the win, and … Read more β†’

New Mobile: Nokia 6600 Slide & Bring it on Soul

Nokia 6600 SlideOver our Easter long weekend, i finally did what i've been saying i was going to do for a little while: i've left my (now previous) mobile phone company and gotten a new plan and a new phone.

The phone I ended up getting was the Nokia 6600 slide. For the most part, i was very happy with my previous phone (the Nokia 5300), so i've basically upgraded to a similar phone that is significantly smaller and has better features (3G, etc.).

After using the 6600-slide for this weekend, i absolutely love it. I really like the size and … Read more β†’

Easter 2009 & Awesome Surreal Game

A big 'Christ is Risen' to everyone!

Other than the main event, this Holy Week has been a pretty uneventful one. I'm really glad that I decided to take Friday off work, as it was great having the day to rest and prepare for the services this weekend.

I'm even more glad that i've taken tomorrow off work too, as right now i'm feeling absolutely screwed. We got home and into bed at around 4:30am last night after Church finished and the supper afterwards, woke up at around 11:30 and did the family thing all afternoon.

The timing of our … Read more β†’

Holy Week Begins & Shiny Clean Computer

Today is the first day of the Orthodox Holy Week, which means regular Church services throughout the week culminating in our Easter on Sunday. This year i've taken Good Friday and Bright Monday off from work to make the week a little more manageable. The timing of Aussie Easter this year means that the coming week will be a three day working week for me. πŸ˜€

I've also just finished wiping and re-installing everything on Trogdor. It's running great at the moment, without all the useless crap that had built up on it over the past two years. I've purposely … Read more β†’

Getting Ready For the Wipe

It's Aussie Easter this weekend (our Orthodox Easter is next week), so that means a wonderful four-day weekend.

So with this spare time i'm doing a lot of things that I have been putting off recently. The top of my list is that I am going to be reformatting Trogdor and reinstalling Windows Vista.

Over the past two years a lot of crap has accumulated on the computer, so it's definitely time to clean it up. I expect that it's going to take the majority of tomorrow to do (there's a lot of stuff that is going to be needed … Read more β†’

Hosting Change: Welcome to Cove

Cove carbon-neutral hostingIf you're seeing this entry, it means that the DNS changes have propagated and you're now seeing this website on my new host.

After all the talk recently and over the years, i've finally moved my hosting account. It wasn't an easy decision, as I had been with my previous host, Solid Internet, for over five years. But recent continuous server issues and general customer service quality dissatisfaction meant that i went to look elsewhere.

After shopping around I eventually settled on choosing Cove, a relatively new company started by some not-so-new people in the hosting business. The fact … Read more β†’

New Blog Feature: Follow-Up Comment Notifications

In the last entry I signalled my intention to add the functionality to this blog to allow commenters to be notified via email of follow-up comments on a particular entry.

Yesterday and this morning i've spent about five hours implementing this functionality on this blog. I know it's kind of ironic me spending a fair amount of time implementing this considering the comment statistics mentioned recently in this entry, but I half-enjoy doing this type of stuff and it keeps my PHP skills up, so i think it's time mostly-well spent.

I'd like to find some real world guinea-pigs, … Read more β†’

Keeping Up With the Smiths and Joneses Geek-Style

Twitter BirdSo I guess that makes them the Gateses and the Jobses?

Anywho, being a geek i've got to keep up with the times, and darn it is tough with all the acronyms, abbreviations and general lolzors etc. Last year it was Facebook, and it seems recently it is now Twitter.

So yes i've joined the bandwagon. My twitter account is at http://twitter.com/lucascosti; follow me at your peril. I've also done a slight revamp of the blog: I have added a 'Tweets' section to the right which displays my last three tweets.

Recently i've also gotten a little itchy to … Read more β†’

Internet Censorship Blacklists & IE8 Released

The worst part of censorship is... *censored*One of the big IT news of the past few days was the apparent revelation of the Government ACMA blacklist by WikiLeaks. The ACMA and Senator Stephen Conroy promptly came out yesterday afternoon and denied that the leaked list was in fact the ACMA blacklist.

Now the funny thing is, is that since the blacklist is strictly confidential, the only way they can categorically prove that the leaked list isn't in fact the blacklist is to publicly publish the real blacklist itself! Otherwise we're going to have to take them on their word.

The Senator and the ACMA have reminded … Read more β†’

Watchmen & Hosting Woes

Watchmen posterFriday night we went and saw Watchmen. I only had brief knowledge of the comic series/graphic novel that the movie was based off, but i really enjoyed the movie.

The direction, visuals, and soundtrack all blended magnificently together to sell the whole 'alternate reality' of a twisted cold-war 1980s setting. The opening credit sequence of the movie is absolutely fantastic; it set the history and mood behind the plot really well.

Although the movie is a little long at 163 minutes, it definitely wasn't long for the sake of it (i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean movies). It felt very … Read more β†’
