World Cup Wrap: Not the Result I Wanted

Italy won the World Cup early this morning Brisbane time, so i'm not only tired but i'm also very grumpy.

They defeated France 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out after the game plus extra time ended 1-1. It was another one of those matches where the team who majorly dominated the game and deserved to win, lost out on penalties.

I slept through my alarm, so I missed the first 30mins of the match, which also included both of the goals. After a pretty equal first half, France almost completely dominated the second half, as well as both halves of extra … Read more →

Poker Winner

Nothing really much blog-worthy of late, other than finishing another working week, playing Friday night poker, and the usual Saturday stuff.

Last nights winner (of both games, grrr :x) was:
This Weeks Winner: Anthony

Went to Church tonight, and tomorrow there is a Liturgy at Bribie Island, so we'll be going to that.

Ahead of the World Cup third place game, and the final, go Germany, and Vive Le France!! World Cup wrap coming after the games.… Read more →

The Finale Is Prepared

I got my wish this morning. Well, technically I got both my wishes this morning. France beat Portugal in the World Cup semi-final, and Christiano Ronaldo once again cried his eyes out like the little girl he is.

Ronaldo Cry Baby
There it is, C.Ronaldo once again crying his eyes out. For more anti-C.Ronaldo stuff, see http://www.ihateronaldo.com/.

lol I could watch him crying all day long and get entertained. It was funny how nearly the whole stadium booed whenever he got the ball.

Anyway, France won 1-0 to set up the final with Italy, who beat Germany in their semi with two … Read more →

Prayer Ropes & Lightsabers (Edit 1)

This past week i've gotten very excited about two acquisitions: a prayer rope and a lightsaber. 'WTF?' I hear many of you exclaiming? What best sums up this strange pairing is a label someone gave to me a while back (i can't remember who), which said I was 'a religious geek'. I love God, and I love Star Wars (obviously not equally), so getting these two things have made me quite happy :D.

My new prayer ropeAfter losing the prayer ropes that I had a while back, I have been wanting to get a replacement for a while. Sadly, Church hasn't had any … Read more →

France KO Brazil!

Henry Scores vs BrazilAnd what a KO'ing it was. I got up at 5am (Brisbane time) to watch the game live on SBS, and I wasn't disappointed. France almost completely dominated the game from start to finish, with a magnificent Thierry Henry volley off a free kick (see right) making the 1-0 scoreline, although the French arguably deserved more.

The Brazilians looked totally out of sorts, all their star players like Ronaldo, Ronaldihno, etc, just couldn't get a touch in, and when they did they quite often made stupid mistakes. It was truly a terrible Brazil performance. Contrasting that was France, who have … Read more →

Everybody Wins! & Sleep

The working week ended yesterday, and that means poker on Friday night. Unfortunately, only Rolando and Tim turned up. We played three games, and despite our best efforts, each of us won one game each. They were all pretty good games too.

So because we all won equally, the photo of this week's poker winner is of all three of us:

Poker Winners: Myself, Rolando, Tim
Myself, Rolando, Tim

In the past 3 or 4 weeks of poker there has been a bit of a poor showing, with only two or three other people turning up. I'm beginning to wonder whether it is worth it … Read more →

Holding my Breath

If this breaks in a few days, it wasn't me :woops:. My host is upgrading all their servers to the latest stable versions on PHP and MySQL (both from versions 4 to 5). As a result, some or all of my PHP scripts may cease to work because I am not 100% positive that they are compatible under the new version of PHP. My apologies in advance if the site goes down.

After all the excitement of the past week (as well as my blog frequency, of which I am quite proud of 8)), things seem to have calmed down … Read more →

Robbed: Australia Out of the World Cup & Futurama Revived!

It was the cruellest of circumstances, in the last few seconds of the game Italy were awarded a very dubious penalty after Australia had completely dominated the second half.

Firstly, i'm going to lay it all on the table: even before this game I have never liked Italian football. Not one bit. I hate their style of play, they always go for one goal and then just defend like crazy, choking life out of any game they play in; their league is a joke (just do a news search now on the 'Serie A' to see what I mean); and … Read more →

Round of Sixteen

Well tonight is (another) the big night: Australia vs Italy in the round of 16 in the Football World Cup. After the keeping debacle of last game, I thought the below image is highly relevant and true:

Church Sign: Jesus Saves Better than Kalac

But seriously, go Australia! We'll see if i'll be coherent enough to to do a round up tomorrow.

To life-blogging, we had a busy but enjoyable weekend. On Saturday was the baptism of my brother's fiancé, which was a really great day. I've never been to an adult baptism before, so it was quite an experience seeing the catechumen say the Confession of … Read more →

Torrenting and Linux Virtual Machines

This weekend I dipped my feet into two technologies that i've previously never touched or shied away from. The first is Bit Torrent. Many will probably be surprised that i've never used this considering my geekiness.

Torrenting is another form of peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, but is more aimed at quickly and efficiently sharing particularly large (i.e. 1GB+) files without needing to download it from a centralised server. It does a pretty good job, a main difference between torrenting and other P2P is that more than the others it is able to share parts of a file that you … Read more →
