A Very Surreal Game

I've just played probably one of the most weird and surreal games of indoor.

I played a pretty good game, scoring two lucky goals in the first half to help us to the break with a 3-0 lead. But then a few things happened. Firstly, Nick got sent off for tripping a guy. I didn't see it all that well, but the decision looked a bit harsh; however it was only a blue card, which means that he won't get a suspension.

So we were playing the game with only four players: Rolando in goals and three on the field. … Read more →

Software Development

I've had a strangely bland week. Throughout the week i've felt pretty much drained, both during work and after. Hence the lack of blogging this week, and also the lack of blogging topics.

One thing that I do think that is blog-worthy (and i've been meaning to blog for some time), is a quote from the author of the original blog script that this blog is based off. He writes about what it's like to develop software:

Imagine you were a sculptor, but you can make anything appear out of thin air. Imagine you can make whatever you pull … Read more →

Water Recycling Paranoia

Australia's Drought*Compulsory rant warning*
As many know, Australia in general is currently going through a water crisis. In our city of Brisbane, the situation is particularly dire, with the region under Level 3 water restrictions, which means among other things, no hosing of any kind is allowed. The dams are currently at around 28% capacity and falling, and at this rate they say the water will run out in less than a few years. We are praying for rain for the dam catchment area.

With the drought not looking at being broken any time soon, a flood like downpour is … Read more →

The End of Eras: Pentium & Kazaa

One of the last Pentiums: Pentium 4In this past week we have seen the end of a few IT eras. Probably most significant is chip maker Intel officially closing the books on the 'Pentium' era and wholly leaping into the multi-core era with its latest massive release of the 'Core 2 Duo' chips.

As most computer users are aware, the Pentium has really been the mainstay of computing over the past 10+ years, so this is really a massive change not only for Intel, but the wider computing public. Although AMD has stolen a little of Intel's thunder in recent years, I still personally prefer the … Read more →

Exercise

Most people say that as soon as you get married, you start packing on some extra kilos. Well it's been true for me: since the wedding in February i've put on about 5 kilos on top of my 'normal' weight of the past few years.

I mostly attribute it to diet (big surprise there, hehe) as well as not getting as much exercise than I have usually been doing over the past few years. Since uni finished, there has been a lot less walking involved (and there was a lot of walking involved around that campus). Although I have … Read more →

Football Venting

It takes something that makes me either very happy or very angry to make post an entry merely 3 hours after i've already done one, and i'm sure you can ascertain from the title of this entry which of the former situations is making be write this.

Firstly, we won tonight's indoor football game comfortably 6-3, so the result is definitely not the reason for this vent. The reason for this vent is rather the officiating that took place within the match.

Never in my 15 years of playing football have I been so incensed with the referee. Refereeing the … Read more →

Arsenal’s New Stadium Opens & pwned

I've had a marvellous weekend, which I hope to cap off with a good game of indoor tonight. Other than the usual washing and cleaning, it's been a very relaxing two days. It's a shame that one has to go to work again on a Monday that rolls around again way too soon.

I've done a fair bit of gaming this weekend too. I finished off Call of Duty 2 and resumed playing Star Wars: Empire at War. Unusually, I also thought I would try a bit off online multiplayer as well. I normally don't play many games online, … Read more →

Admiring the Virtual Vista (Beta 2)

In getting a bit caught up in the whole virtual machine thing in recent weeks, I decided to finally have a go at installing the latest beta version of Microsoft's upcoming Windows Vista.

I installed it as a virtual machine under VMware Server, but thus all the ultra-pretty effects of the new 'Aero' interface wouldn't work because of the apparent difficulty of virtual machines using a graphics card. So I had to use the toned-down interface which still nevertheless looked quite good.

'Enough talking, show us some screenshots!' i here you say, below are a few selected thumbnails, you can … Read more →

Football Resumes & Mice

grrrr: annoyance at typing this out for the second time after accidentally pressing the back button on my new mouse and losing my typed out entry.

Anyway, here I go again: I had a pretty good weekend. After doing all the washing and cleaning that is required of us on a Saturday, we went to Church on Saturday night and after welcoming back a friend, we made a brief appearance at the subsequent Estia Foundation supper. (As a side note, how come the Estia Foundation can come up with a half-decent website but the Archdiocese can't?)

Anyway, after that we … Read more →

Catching Up on Some Sleep

I know there hasn't been much activity from me over this past week, but following the end of the World Cup i've been mainly spending time catching up on some very much needed sleep. During the World Cup i was getting anywhere between 3 and 6 hours of sleep a night, and now i'm doing about 9 just to stay awake. It's amazing what football will do to you.

Call of Duty 2 CoverLast week I took advantage of another EB sale and bought Call of Duty 2 (COD2) on PC for around only $50. I love my WWII games, and apparently COD was … Read more →
