Feed Fixed & Thrashed

RSSA few will recall me hunting around for a online RSS aggregator but not liking Google Reader because it didn't display my blog's feed correctly.

Well i really really liked what they did with the latest version of the service, and I really wanted to use it because I use a few other things with Google, and i wouldn't mind using Reader as well. So I invested a little time in trying to figure out what Google Reader didn't like with my blog feed, found it (relating to relative URLs), and promptly fixed it. Well, not really 'fixed it' because … Read more →

Internet Explorer 7 & Validated

IE7A big geeky post for today.

The big geek news from the past few days is that Microsoft has released Internet Explorer 7. After a stagnant past five years in which Microsoft has barely touched Internet Explorer, they have finally produced a new version. Most analysts say that it is a result from Firefox eating away at their market share that has prompted them to actually do something to update their browser.

You can download IE7 from the Microsoft website.

I made very public my dislike for IE6 when i switched to Firefox a few years back, so what … Read more →

Trainspotting & iPods: Now Viruses Are Included!

Queensland RailAs mentioned in the last entry, the traffic situation in Brisbane is still chaotic. The Riverside Expressway has been closed the past two days, and looks to remain closed to at least tomorrow, with still no definitive word from the government on when to expect it reopened.

As a result, the past two days I have caught the train into work to avoid the road mess. Queensland Rail have been pretty good, adding more services to cope with a lot more people taking the trains. The trains have been pretty full (standing room only), but still running mostly on time. … Read more →

Traffic Chaos

Traffic chaosThis afternoon in Brisbane, the traffic version of a full-blown disaster played out. Just before the afternoon peak/rush-hour, the government decided to close the Riverside Expressway (see webcam shot right), which for the out-of-towners is the main arterial freeway leading into and out of Brisbane City and the central business district (CBD).

Anyone who has ever lived in Brisbane will tell you how much of a massive event this is. The result was total and utter traffic chaos on a scale that I have never seen before. Not only because of the closure, but that it happened almost immediately before … Read more →

Mini-Redesign

My LogoThe regulars will notice that things may look a little different. I've just completed a minor redesign, mainly just overhauling the site header.

Since the implementation of the last design, although it was nice and simple, I knew it was a little... boring. So with the help of the very patient and wonderful Mrs (who is really good at the graphic stuff btw), we've made the site header a little snazzier.

I've put in a gradient background that seems to be the fashion recently, as well as jazzed up the title of both the site and the page. The page … Read more →

Computer Fast

It's been a strange week for me. Very strange in fact. I really can't remember the last time this has actually happened. 'Just tell us already!!', i hear you exclaim.

Okay: this week I went the whole business week (from the start of business Monday to the end of business Friday) without touching a computer at home. I really can't remember the last time when I have gone so long at home without using a computer.

Each night after work it's been a pretty hectic. Although my home 'computer fast' started off unintentionally, by Wednesday and Thursday I was purposefully … Read more →

How I got into IT

Entering into ITI've been wanting to do this entry for quite a while: a detailed mini-biography of how I ended up in the field of work I am currently in. You are forewarned that this will be a long post; lifeblogging follows at the end.

Contrary to the usual practice, I did not always know that I wanted to work with computers. Quite the contrary: I had actively discounted it on many occasions.

Anywho, I get a bit ahead of myself. Back in the high school days, most students are eventually confronted with the quite daunting task of choosing the subjects that … Read more →

My Opinion on Ebay

The Footballroos in BrisbaneFor some reason i'm not feeling the best at the moment, I feel really strange. Anywho, today whilst going into the City for lunch, we unknowingly stumbled upon the Footballroos (Socceroos) doing a public thing in the Queen St Mall ahead of their friendly against Paraguay in town on Saturday night. Nearly all the big names were there, except of course for Harry "I'm only allowed to play 5 games in a season" Kewell (who is really out injured, and of course is totally useless anyway). To your right is a really dodgy photo i attempted to take with my … Read more →

Slack Blogging & Band of Brothers

Typing this out listening to the new Weird Al album that I finally just bought (or should I say that my wonderful wife got for me). Needless to say, it's pretty good.

I guess i've been slack blogging-wise over the past week, not blogging in six days. Truthfully, over the past week I really haven't spent that much time in front of the computer at home, which is really strange, because i would say (and i'm sure the wife would grudgingly agree) that I spend most of my time at home in front of the computer.

Band of BrothersAnywho, a lot of … Read more →

Spoofs: Apple and Chamillionaire & RSS Reader

I've stumbled upon a few hilarious spoofs/parodies lately. First up is Apple and their 'Get a Mac' Mac vs PC ads. These piss me off. Luckily, some guys have developed a set of funny spoofs that manage to pay out nearly everybody involved (Warning!: NSFW, language etc.) . Gold.

The king of parodies and spoofs, Weird Al Yankovic is releasing his next album here in the next few days (see previous entry). The latest video off the album is a parody of the song Ridin by Chamillionaire. The video, and song are both hilarious. See Chamillionaire's original … Read more →
