Slack Blogging & Band of Brothers

Typing this out listening to the new Weird Al album that I finally just bought (or should I say that my wonderful wife got for me). Needless to say, it's pretty good.

I guess i've been slack blogging-wise over the past week, not blogging in six days. Truthfully, over the past week I really haven't spent that much time in front of the computer at home, which is really strange, because i would say (and i'm sure the wife would grudgingly agree) that I spend most of my time at home in front of the computer.

Band of BrothersAnywho, a lot of my spare time spent over the past week involved watching the entire Band of Brothers miniseries on DVD. I had been prompted to watch it again after staying up late last Tuesday night setting the computer to record a football game the next morning, when I accidentally stumbled upon Channel 9 playing the first episode (it seems that they aren't continuing on and playing the second episode this week?). Anyway, the music pulled me in, the main score for the show is an absolute masterpiece.

After watching the series through again (and getting Des into it as well), I would have to say that in my opinion it has to be one of the best TV series ever made. A lot of money was poured into it's production, and overall it makes for an authentic and realistic representation of the amazing true story of World War II for a specific company of the American Airborne Infantry. It's made even more real by each episode opening with the actual real men that are the subject of the series, now elderly men, anonymously and quite emotionally recounting their experience on the topic/setting of the respective episode. Only at the end of the last episode of the series does it reveal which real person corresponded to which actor's representation of him in the series.

I highly recommend everyone to have a go at watching it.

Other than that we really just did the usual over the past week: worked, Church on Saturday night, Bible study on Monday night. We also welcomed back the newlyweds, and this past weekend was also the grand final weekend of Aussie Rules football and Rugby League. The latter of which the local sporting team won.

Also some very disturbing news is just coming in.

  1. Funny thing, I did the same thing with Band of Brothers as well. I saw it on channel nine, and now i am re watching the series. And i agree, awesome mini-series. band of Brothers, and Horblower (its about a naval officer in the Napoleon wars)are my two favourite mini-series.
