Wedding Trilogy Complete & Goal Drought Over

My Brother's WeddingYesterday our family celebrated the final wedding of the Costi kids, my older brother (the eldest sibling) getting married yesterday.

It was another great wedding, i'm very happy for the both of them. It's common knowledge that my brother has never really gotten on well with myself or my sister, and surprisingly last night in his speech (i'm not sure how of it was affected by alcohol ;)), he actually apologised to the both us for himself over the years. That surprised me a lot to say the least.

So that's the last wedding for my parents: they've married off … Read more →

Ordering & Accidents

I haven't blogged much lately, i've been preoccupied with a great many things.

The rest of last week nothing much really happened that I can remember, so it mustn't have been too exciting. Over the last week I've mainly been concerned with watching processor prices, and trying to order them (how sad).

The Intel price drop did happen on Friday, but to my disappointment after contacting the store that I was going to buy my custom-built computer off, they didn't have a lot of the components that i was wanting in stock, and that it would be a few weeks … Read more →

Consumerism: Trudging along waiting for price cuts

ConsumerismWaiting blows. I have come to realise over the years that I am generally a very impatient person. If i know I want something, I generally want to get it as soon as possible. It's worse waiting for something that you don't know when you are going to get it.

Waiting for the expected price-cuts on various items needed for me to build my new computer mentioned in the previous entry is not really bringing out the best of me. In fact it's like a drug addiction that I need a fix for.

I don't really like situation, and i … Read more →

Feeling the Itch…

I've mentioned previously that I was going to wait to much later this year to buy a new computer.

Several things have happened in the past week which has accelerated those plans. I am currently very very itchy to get the new computer.

The first thing that happened was that, just out of curiosity's sake, I tallied the cost of all the parts that I would like in the computer, and surprisingly found that it actually sat within my anticipated budget (albeit pushing the very top range of said budget).

Secondly, on Wednesday night I spent a few hours troubleshooting … Read more →

Easter 2007

Firstly a big "Christ is Risen!" to everybody.

In my sickness last week I ended up missing out on the Holy Wednesday and Holy Thursday services, but i did end up going to the Good Friday and Resurrection services.

It may be partly related to the fact that I did miss out on a fair few of the Holy Week services, but I didn't really 'feel' Easter all that much this year. It also might be partly due to the fact that - greatly disappointingly - this year there was barely a scant of English in any of … Read more →

Sick Sucks & New Keyboard

I'm sick. Being sick sucks.

I woke up yesterday feeling fine and went to work. However by about 10am, my nose starting clogging up and running. A sore throat and a light head developed and i ended up going home early. It also meant that I missed the Holy Tuesday service last night, and will probably miss Wednesday tonight as well.

So it looks like i have the flu; this is actually the first sick-day that i've taken in quite a while, the only other one I can remember was just after getting back from our honeymoon.

New KeyboardAnywho, so i'm … Read more →

Palm Sunday (Saturday) & Hot Fuzz

Me in the Jumping CastleStill getting over a busy weekend at the moment, but there won't be any let-up soon as tomorrow marks the beginning of the Orthodox (as well as Western this year) Holy Week.

On Saturday night the annual Palm Sunday Fete was held after the the English liturgy, resuming after last year's hiatus. The Liturgy was absolutely packed, in my opinion on par with the amount of pack-age as the Easter resurrection service. As usual with the previous years of the fete, I along with the other usual suspects, were in charge of the jumping castle. As it was remarked many … Read more →

90s Gaming Hell Freezes Over

Well the news is spreading, and anyone who's anyone that played video games in the 1990s will realise that the gaming hell from that era is freezing over.

The announcement has been made: Nintendo's Mario and Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog will both be co-starring in the same game, developed by Sega and overseen by Nintendo.

The game, entitled Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will allow Mario and Sonic along with their pals, to compete against each other at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

If playing Sonic on a Nintendo console would have been unbelievable a decade ago, then the … Read more →

Freeing Security

For the past few years I've tread the line between good free software and the 'reputable' non free stuff. For PC security, this is definitely the case. On our desktop PC i've put free stuff, whilst on my laptop i've always had some flavour of Norton Internet Security (NIS), which includes a software firewall, antivirus, and antispyware amongst other things.

In a few weeks the subscription for my NIS 2006 was running out, and despite my best efforts to... ermmm... 'continue' the subscription without actually renewing it, meant that I was fed up with having to pay ~$80 year for … Read more →

IT: We’re Not All Brain Surgeons

I thought it might be time for another rant, you have been forewarned ;).

Throughout my experiences in my very short 'career' as an IT 'professional' it always amazes me that regular people expect you to know everything about every computer, every piece of software, and every piece of hardware, and also how it works.

When I inform family and acquaintances that I don't know anything about *insert free software that they have downloaded from a dodgy Russian website*, or that I haven't seen or used the model of their new router, or that i can't program a complete accounting … Read more →
