Day 14 of NaBloPoMo 2007

Finally! It should have been here almost a month ago, but today I finally got my Orange Box. I ended up getting a credit from the original store whose shipment did not arrive, and then eventually bought the game for a slightly more expensive price from a store on eBay.

Day 13 of NaBloPoMo 2007

Nothing much happening today, so i'm going to go with one of my pre-prepared topics.

It's happened several times now over the years: people that i've just met remarking that I have a (usually) American accent, and asking where in North America am i from.

I don't really get it, i'm born and raised here in Brisbane, and I don't think i sound at all American. Especially when i was at uni at the start of a semester of tutorials, a fair few people tagged me as an overseas American student.

Day 12 of NaBloPoMo 2007

Not much happening today. Finally the new system admin started at work today, so hopefully things should start returning to some kind of normalcy soon.

With the current election coming up, it's funny driving past Kevin Rudd's (our local representative and the current the Australian opposition leader and alternative Prime Minister at this election) office, as it's now not uncommon to see men in dark suits and Australian Federal Police standing outside the doors. Apparently once the election is called the Opposition Leader gets the special protective treatment.

I almost went to bed tonight before i remembered I had to post.

Anywho, today I woke up, got really impatient and re-emailed the people responsible for sending me The Orange Box. I asked for a refund, as i've had enough and was just going to get it elsewhere. Despite me asking for a refund, they conveniently ignored that and said they'd send another one out, despite the fact that they don't have it in stock nor even list it in their catalog any more. Day 10 of NaBloPoMo 2007

I'm squeezing another one on before the midnight deadline!

Anywho, today was largely uneventful. Got up, paid the bills, went to Carindale to buy an engagement present, got back and cleaned, played through Episode I on Lego Star Wars, and then went to the engagement which we've just gotten back from.

Day 9 of NaBloPoMo 2007

Just getting this entry in before the end of the day.

For some reason work really sucked today. There wasn't one particular bad event, but many really irritating annoying ones strung throughout the day.

For distractions, tonight we went and saw Good Luck Chuck which i've been wanting to see for a while despite the horrendously bad reviews it's gotten.

Day 8 of NaBloPoMo 2007

In the last few days the weather had been great.

Following a couple of days of constant drizzle, the temperatures have plummeted from the hot, ugly, stinking, dirty, selling-poison-lollipops-to-school-children low thirty degree weather from a couple of days ago, to comfortable, nice, pleasant-smelling, clean, volunteering-at-the-local-orphange mid-twenty degree weather.

Needless to say i am enjoying it.

Work today wasn't as bad as i was expecting it, which probably means that tomorrow will be disaster-filled and terrible. Always the optimist I am!

Day 7 of NaBloPoMo 2007

Today was my slated TOIL day off from work so I spent it doing what a stressed out IT geek does with days off: watching movies, and playing and purchasing video games.

I started the day by watching Hot Fuzz on DVD which i bought last week for the very cheap price of $9.95. Awesome movie, definitely up there as one of my favourites from this year.

Day 6 of NaBloPoMo 2007

Today was crap, so i'm not going to go into it too much: the air-conditioning in the server room was accidentally shut off by stupid electricians which resulted in very loud screaming 2 racks worth of servers wailing for some cool air, and firewalls shutting themselves off because it got too hot to bear.

That plus hard drives in servers starting to fail, as well as a crap-load of stuff that never happens actually happening, and of course all this on the first day in ages when it's only me in the IT department.

Day 5 of NaBloPoMo 2007

I can't believe how sore I am in my upper body today. Other than my corked right thigh, my legs are fine. But my arms especially are really really sore.

Pushing and pulling open doors at work had me wincing in pain, and i can tell you that i'm definitely not looking forward to shaving tomorrow morning.
