Marks party & Election

Last night was Mark's 21st party. I had a great time, it's always good to catch up with the guys from school, it's really been a while since i've seen most of them. Photos are in the gallery (password required for these as usual). I've also uploaded some more of my assignments from this year if anyone is interested.

Yesterday was also the Federal election. Went and voted at around 10am. The Coalition was returned as Government, surprisingly increasing their majority as well. Early indications are that they might even control the Senate, which is pretty exceptional, as it's been … Read more β†’

Windows 3.1 & Summer is coming

I was in Myer at Loganholme the other day (Thursday, i think), just browsing through the book department. In the "Computer" (using the "" loosely) section, my eyes wandered to a book entitled: The Complete Book on Windows 3.1. I first thought that the book was some kind of joke. I then picked it up, and it was the real deal. My second thought was that they must be trying to get rid of it for like 20c or something: nope they were selling this book at a hefty price of $20.30.

I looked through this book, which must … Read more β†’

I haven’t got the power

Today was frustrating in many ways. Most of all i went into uni today from around 2-7 on a day in which I don't normally have uni. Apart from that, we also lost power here today for around an hour. What was frustrating is that we now have a gate that is electrically powered for our driveway, and of course when there is now power, the gate doesn't work.

However, we were provided keys for the gate that unlocks the moving mechanism so you would be able to slide it open manually if there was a loss of power or … Read more β†’

Fairly busy

I've been fairly busy lately.

On Friday I took my day off that i was planning. In the morning i got a much needed haircut (i didn't do it myself like Andrew though, hehe). I felt like watching a movie so I watched X-Men 2 on dvd. I also had two very pleasant surprises: first of all Rolando came over to show me his car (very nice btw), and we ended up watching Shoalin Soccer. It was also Rolando's 21st birthday on Friday. A public 'Happy Birthday!' to him. Just after Rolando left, Mark rang and came over for … Read more β†’

All day in the Labs

For the first time in my time at uni (almost four whole years), I spent almost the entire day, and also some of the night, in the computer labs at uni.

This might seem strange to some people considering i'm doing an IT degree, but i've never had the need to spend all day in front of the uni computers. I've always tried (and succeeded mostly) to do all my computer related work at home on my (mostly) reliable computer, compared to the sometimes faulty air-conditioning and nearly always faulty computers that are the labs. I dunno, it always seems … Read more β†’

RSS Feed and Firefox Live Bookmarks

One of the latest features of the Firefox browser is what's called Live Bookmarks. (a Bookmark is basically the same thing as a Favourite in Internet Explorer) However these 'live' bookmarks are different from normal bookmarks and use RSS(Really Simple Syndication) feeds to generate links to frequently updated information. I'm not doing a really good job of explaining this but...

For example this blog now has an RSS feed (well, it's always had it, but there was no link to it on the pages). Now In Firefox when you go to this blog, you will see a little RSS symbol … Read more β†’

Top of the Class!

I can't really believe it. The INFS3200 (Advanced Info. Systems) mid-semester exam results were just published, and i scored the best in the class. I scored the highest out of the class of over 100 people with 74/80 (the exam was worth 40% of the course). The next highest people were on 65.5 and the average being 45.69. I don't really know why the average was that low...

Today i was woken up by a call for me to come into work. Not a very nice way to wake up, but i went and worked anyway from 8:30 to 1.… Read more β†’

Studying and the Internet: Good or Bad?

So begins my mid-semester 'break'. Lots planned (see previous post), and first in the firing line is finishing the HIST2606 essay. Got some good primary sources but need more.

Worked yesterday, went to church last night.

The weather is heating up a lot, which i am not liking. Last few nights slept with only the one sheet and the window open. Boo hoo, i hate the summer weather. πŸ™

A thought has come upon me in the recent weeks: Is having (almost) unlimited access to high-speed internet beneficial, or actually detrimental to me studying for uni?

If you has asked … Read more β†’

COMP2502 mark, INFS3200 exam solutions, COMP3804 presentation

A few days ago I got my COMP2502 assignment 1 (the assignment with timing algorithms etc.) mark back. I originally only got 77/100, which included the bonus 5% for handing it in early. I was majorly disappointed in this result (I only got 20/40 for the analysis). I was confident that i had answered everything required of me for the analysis and strongly felt that a bare pass for that section was not really deserving of the assignment. I weighed up whether to appeal the mark, as the assignment was only worth 15% of the course, and if i was … Read more β†’

INFS3200 Exam and SW Trilogy DVD!

yesterday was the INFS3200 mid-semester exam, worth 40% of that course. I didn't really do as well as i had hoped to, but i'm pretty sure i at least passed the exam. I think most people were surprised by the amount of theory questions on the exam, and the general lack of the type of questions that we were used to answering in the tutorials. But anywho, what'ya going to do.

Now that the exam is over, i can now concentrate on my other courses and assignments. As next week is the mid-semester break, i've got a lot planned to … Read more β†’
