Since we've moved out, i've sorely missed the ability to be able to record something off the TV for whatever reason. We only bought a TV and DVD player, as I didn't really want to waste money buying a VCR since they're basically almost totally on their way out (i think they're more expensive than DVD players now anyway), and we can't really afford a good DVD/HD recorder for the TV.

The solution? A relatively cheap USB digital TV tuner which allows you to watch TV on your computer, as well as record TV onto the computer's hard disk, which … Read more →

Had a pretty normal past few days. Work, Bible study on Monday night, work, work, and so on. So I thought I would mix it up a little by an opinion article. Once again, these are my own personal opinions.

Something that most have undoubtedly caught in the news recently is the Pope making comments about some history concerning Islam which has bought widespread condemnation, and dare I say it, revolt, from large sections of the Muslim world. I should firstly disclaim myself for the non-aware readers that I am not Catholic, so I don't support the Pope or the … Read more →

Is this weekend over already?! I really haven't had a proper one.

There was a fairly big event in my family yesterday: the wedding of my younger sister. It's quite hard to believe that she is now married. I had a great time, it's hard to put into words how happy I am for her; I was smiling for the most of the night. I had a great time, and it's always good having an excuse to get dressed up. Although the weather wasn't great, it did stop raining at the times we needed it to. That's two down one … Read more →

I've been finding myself being very forgetful in my blogging. Big and notable events I totally miss.

For example, on the weekend was the state election and I totally missed blogging about it on Sunday. I voted on Saturday, knowing that no matter what i voted the incumbent Labor candidate was going to win anyway.

Despite numerous massive stuff-ups over their last term, the government was re-elected with a smaller, but still very sizable, majority. There was really no respectable opposition in this election: the Liberal leader Dr Bruce Flegg was an absolute joke; he had a shocker of an … Read more →

So the weekend is winding down. It always goes way too quickly. On Saturday I did all the usual computer maintenance, and discovered a few funny things on the net: most notably the labelling of one character from Star Wars Episode I, as Captain Obvious. That link is to the leading Star Wars Wikipedia, humorously labelled Wookieepedia (a side note is something that Andrew told me last night of someone vandalising the Orthodox Wiki with links pointing to Wookieepedia).

Wikis are curious things, and their popularity is now so ubiquitous and widespread that there is basically a wiki … Read more →

I love this city. For the unaware, I live in Brisbane, Australia. Unlike many who live here, I am an unashamed Brisbane lover. Many say the city is too small, doesn't have a great night-life, blah blah blah. (The picture right is another from this year's RiverFire fireworks and jet fly-by).

I was born here, and God willing, I will probably die here as well. Much more than my home, Brisbane is part of me and I really can't imagine living anywhere else. I guess what really makes me love Brisbane is that it has everything a city has: … Read more →

As many around the world have seen the news, yesterday Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray's barb that pierced his heart. A very sad incident indeed, and I find it slightly ironic that out of all the deadly animals that he has handled and had contact with over the years, the one the actually got him was a relatively harmless stingray.

Another slightly more humorous incident that was making the rounds on the internet last week, was that of a passenger jet in Canada calling in bomb squads etc over an iPod that was accidentally dropped in the plane's … Read more →

It's been a while since I did a good lifeblogging.

This last week went mainly according to some form of routine. As alluded to in the previous entry, i've had a bit of hosting problems for this website as my account has been migrated to a new server. The site was down, and because it has contravened their 99.5% Uptime Guarantee, i will undoubtedly be getting some money/bonuses in return.

In our state of Queensland, we are having state elections next week, and I am already sick of all the ads related to it. Each party promising this, that, the … Read more →

Firstly, you may have noticed that this site has been down a bit over the past few days. My hosting account has been moved onto new servers, so while DNS propagates around the world, it looked like the site was down (geek stuff, so don't worry about it). Hopefully everything should be ok now, but obviously i'm not very happy with my host at the moment.

Edit: Site is now back up, but the gallery seems to be on the blink. Welcome back, and hopefully that will be resolved shortly, but I'm not too worried about it.

After my recent … Read more →

Today Despina and I went out to Carindale to go to Big W to take advantage of their big DVD sale that they've got going. Unfortunately the one movie that I really wanted to get from it was surprisingly sold out. Not happy.

Added to that utterly depressing performances from Arsenal recently, and banging my head on our wardrobe, I did not have a good start to the day.

Anyway, I did buy a couple of movies: I got a double pack containing Fantastic Four, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for a cheap $20 (right). Despite wanting to, … Read more →
