Day 8 of NaBloPoMo
I finally received my sunglasses that I ordered last week after the shenanigans of the past few days. Below are some photos of the old and new sunglasses next to each other (old on the left, new on the right).
Despite looking almost exactly alike, there are differences between the old and new ones that had me a little concerned. Firstly the frames in the new ones seem to be just a tad thicker than the old ones, and the colour is noticeably different. The colour difference can be chalked down to six years of use of wear on the old ones.
The thing that has me most concerned is the lenses. The new lenses are a slightly lighter tint than the old ones, and also the lenses in the new ones are slightly loose in that they move about 2mm horizontally when you are cleaning them, making a creaking sort of noise.
This lead to suspect that the new ones might be fake rip-offs, but the official Oakley box, pouch for the sunglasses, and warranty card are just too authentic for them to be.
I know that i am probably being very overly paranoid, and that the two pairs of the same sunglasses, sold in different countries, in different parts of the world, six years apart are bound to be from different manufacturing batches, and thus bound to be slightly different. Plus I have gone through various 'How to identify authentic Oakley sunglasses' tips and guides, and everything checks out. The box even says © 2000, which is the year they came out (i got my first ones early 2001).
So I think it's just a matter of wearing them and getting used to them, and getting the ears to mould around my big fat head.
Edit: woot! As a result of NaBloPoMo, I have now broken my previous consecutive post record.
How do you know your originals weren't fake rip-offs?
Ooh shiny! I might pick up a few pairs of fakes in Shanghai, if you're interested;)
dude...make your posts earlier.
i have to see most of your posts almost 22 hours after you make them. and i hate dated information!
Con: I bought the old ones from a Sunglass Hut store at Carindale, so yeah, I know that they're original ;).
Mel: hehe thanks, but I don't think the fake places in Shanghai will have them, they're pretty old and now way out of fashion (except for an old fogey like me... :D)
Andrew: I can't make my posts earlier! At night before I go to sleep is the only time I actually have to type out an entry...
