Unfortunately, I'm no longer with a workplace that subsidises new phones every two years, so it's meant that I've waited over three years for a new phone.
If I'm being honest, I haven't really needed to upgrade. Once you get to the upper-mid-range phones, upgrades these days are very iterative. There's not much that gets me excited about new phones these days.
The main thing that was really prompting me to replace my now-previous Pixel 7 was the below-par optical under-screen fingerprint sensor (which never worked well in full sunlight), combined with Google's policy change a year into the Pixel 7 of requiring a fingerprint unlock to pay with NFC.
Other than some increased AI capabilities, the only other thing I've 'upgraded' with the Pixel 10 is that the standard version now comes with a triple-camera set up that has a telephoto lens.
The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on this phone isn't affected by sunlight, but if I'm being honest, I still think a rear-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader is a faster and better user experience. Maybe once Apple starts going a bit retro (see recent the macOS Vista-like "Liquid Glass" UI! 😆) and does it on their phones, it might make a comeback. 🤞
The migration process between phones is getting pretty streamlined at this point. The cable migration between the phones, combined with exporting-and-importing a few things manually (like Nova Launcher settings), means it's 90% done in about half a day now.
It's all pretty familiar, and right now I think that's what I want, which is probably another sign that I'm getting old. 😅
