Hunting of the houses & Viruses strike again

Yesterday we continued looking for houses, inspecting a lot and finding a few promising ones.

Me and Despina also went to a wedding yesterday and last night. I didn't really know the people getting married, so it was kind of strange. Rolando came along to the service to see the gist of the whole ceremony ahead my own wedding in just a few days under six months away. We went to the reception last night, but didn't stay through all of it as Despina hasn't been feeling too good over the last few days.

Thursday and Friday at work wasn't too bad. Friday we did a network port audit ahead of the company switching their telephone system over to IP phones (a phone system which uses the internet to make calls etc), which means that everyone who will need to have a phone will need to have a spare network port next to them. I then went into the server room to disconnect all the ports that will be used for phones from the switch. That and the audit took me all of Friday.

Today after soccer, i went to Rolando's house to try and help him with problems that he has been having with his computer. Turns out it was absolutely infected with viruses, adware, and spamware. I tried my best, but after over two hours of cleaning the thing out, one recurring virus would not go away. It was very strange in that it kept deleting all file extension association for .exe files (the main executable file on the Windows operating system).

Thus every time you tried to open a program in Windows through anything other than through the command line, it kept on opening the 'Open With...' window. That even applied to opening a command prompt by going Start > Run and typing in cmd. I had to get a prompt by opening the Task Manager, and then Ctrl-clicking New Task (Run) in the File menu.

I ended up recommending him to re-install Windows and start afresh. This has given me a fresh reason to write an 'Internet Safety Guide'.

Here was something I was forwarded in the last week, with the title of IT joke:

Daddy, how was I born?"

Dad says: "Ah, my son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway! Well, you see your Mum and I first got together in a chat room on MSN. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your mum and we met at a cyber-caf?. We sneaked into a secluded room, where your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a blessed little Pop-Up appeared and said: You've Got Male!
