The Best and Worst of 2014

I don't feel like I've been exposed to a lot that has been on offer this year in terms of movies and games. Nevertheless, tradition must be observed, so here is 2014's movies and games that I most enjoyed, and those I didn't at all.

Movies

I haven't seen any of the Boxing Day movies yet, but I doubt what is on offer will change my mind from the movies I have already seen this year.

The Lego MovieBest Movie: The Lego Movie

Yeah, big surprise, I know ;). It was looking like it was a tough choice between Lego and Guardians of the Galaxy, but I really enjoyed The Lego Movie a whole lot more than I expected too. I did have high expectations for the movie, and somehow, it managed to meet and surpass them. Conversely with GotG, I had no expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

The fast pace, awesome humour, good message, and lots of in-jokes for fans of Lego, meant that it was definitely my favourite movie of the year. Everything was awesome.

Honourable Mentions: Guardians of the Galaxy.

Worst Movie: Transformers: Age of Extinction

I reasonably enjoyed the first three Transformers movies. The first was great, and the other two were very palatable action flicks. But words cannot describe how much I really did not enjoy this movie. It felt like carbon-copy of the previous movies' action scenes (even some taking place in Chicago, almost exactly like Transformers 3), with extremely disposable characters that I cared nothing for, amongst a plot that was even less developed than the previous films (and that's saying something). The hideous running length, and overwhelming product placement didn't help things either. Give it up Michael Bay.

Dishonourable Mentions: Last Vegas, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Games

South Park: The Stick of TruthBest Game: South Park: The Stick of Truth

I'm a big South Park fan, so this game really hit the spot. It felt like a long epic episode, and one that you were a part of. Full of the typical South Park adult humour, out of all the games that I played from this year, this was the one that I enjoyed the most.

Honourable Mentions: Mario Kart 8

Worst Game: Nothing.

I didn't play anything all too bad this year, but leaving playing The Last of Us to this year is probably an award I should receive for the worst gaming choice, because that game was absolutely remarkable.
