The Best and Worst of 2009 Wednesday 30 December 2009, 0:08

Yesterday we went and saw Sherlock Holmes at the movies (i thought it was good, but not great), and it's reminded me to to this now-traditional annual entry. Here's my wrap of the games and movies I experienced this year.

Movies

Best Movie: Watchmen

This selection might surprise some (it surprises me!), but for me Watchmen stood out as the best movie of the year. Maybe it was how unexpectedly good i found it, but just the story, setting, music, filmography, and epicness made Watchmen the single movie that stands out most in my memory this year. Easily my choice for best movie this year.

Honourable mentions: Transformers 2, Zombieland, Up, and Avatar.

Worst Movie: Confessions of a Shopaholic

I had the displeasure of having to sit through and watch this movie. It was cliché, unrelatable, nonsensical, irresponsible, and plain unfunny (and I generally like Isla Fisher).

Honourable mentions for worst movie: Terminator: Salvation and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Games

This was a very ordinary year for games, especially the PC ones.

Best games: PC: There wasn't really much out at all on the PC that I got except for MW2, which was largely disappointing, so I'd probably go with the gloriously uncensored Left 4 Dead 2 as the best PC game i got.

Wii: On the Wii, the hands down winner was House of the Dead: Overkill. Great adult-oriented stuff.

PS3: Now that I have a PS3 this year, my GOTY for that console would have to be Burnout Paradise. I spent the most time on this game probably out of any game across all the consoles this year, and although it wasn't actually released this year, it still deserves to be my best PS3 game of 2009. Honourable mention goes to Flower.

Worst games: Like last year, there wasn't really that many 'worst' games that I actually spent money on. The most disappointing game would have to go to MW2. Worst game on the PS3 would have to be the excellent-idea-but-poorly-implemented Fat Princess.

So that's it for 2009! 'Year in Review' entry coming soon.
