Moving In Sunday 26 February 2012, 23:07

Well we've finally done it: on Monday last week we began the process of moving into our house. The move has definitely been easier because we are moving the majority of our stuff from the house next door, but I really despise moving nevertheless. The intention is that we won't have to do this again for quite some time Smile.

The first few nights were a bit strange, but it really is already starting to feel like home. There is still a lot for us to do before everything will have settled down, but most of the important stuff is here (like the computers Wink)

Of course one of the things that I am really enjoying from a geek point of view is the network. It's so darn good not to be at the mercy of the unpredictable nature of wireless any more, I'll take a wired gigabit connection any day of the week over a wireless one.

I'm just about to hook the laptop up to the TV to watch the Arsenal derby game on it via the Fox Sports Premier League On Demand service; it won't be HD, but I think the quality will be good enough. Here's hoping for a good result!

3D Star Wars, House Finishing, Ordinations Sunday 12 February 2012, 22:26

Lots of big events this week!

The first big one was a Star Wars movie back in theatres and in 3D no less. Yes, I know it was 'only' Episode I, and how much that is the worst Star Wars movie (no arguments there), but I still nevertheless enjoyed it. I'll never pass up an opportunity to see a Star Wars movie in the cinemas, and this was no exception.

Although the 3D projectors at the cinema I was watching it in I don't think were aligned properly (it was a little out of focus in 3D), it was definitely the best quality 2D-to-3D conversion that I have seen. The space battles and pod race were particularly good.

The next huge event was that on Friday our new house was officially certified, and thus now habitable. It's been a long long process (well it's at least felt like it), and now there's only a few minor things to finish before we move into it in the very near future.

Finally but by no means least, Saturday was a big event as the ordination of the now Deacon Andrew. It's great to see someone we've actually known and grown up with get married, and now also ordained. Congratulations and many years! Big Grin

Birthday Goals & BF3 Monday 6 February 2012, 22:10

So begins the last year of my 20s. I'm really not looking forward leaving my 20s behind, so I guess i'm going to have to make the best of the year ahead.

My birthday yesterday went really well for the most part. I stayed up late the night before and kicked off my birthday watching Arsenal pummel Blackburn 7-1 with the cherry on top being a Thierry Henry Premier League goal. It's been a long long time since Arsenal won big like that (at least a season or two ago), so it was a really enjoyable game to watch. It's quite sad that these type of games are really the rare exception for Arsenal nowadays; in my rosy-tinted history glasses it seems like they used to do that at least once a month back in the glory days of the early 2000s.

As my birthday was on a Sunday, it also meant a game of indoor. I actually scored a birthday goal in the game, which unfortunately we ended up losing by a few goals.

Yesterday also saw me play BF3 online for the first time properly. It's a fair bit different to BC2, some of which I understand and can get used to but other parts of which had me seething with rage.

The little things like the weapon/equipment ordering being different which seems illogical to me I can get used to, but other things like the complete inability/bug to be able to 'spot' with a mouse button even though you can bind it to other keys in the settings is really inexcusable.

To be able to spot with a mouse button I've had to resort to running a separate program with the game which is in effect a key-interceptor, so that when I press the appropriate mouse button the program intercepts the command and then virtually presses the default spot button for me instead. It's quite astounding that I have to go to such lengths to do such a basic thing in the game.
